Miles Halter is tired of his boring and lonely life at home in Florida, so he decides to go a boarding school in Alabama, hoping that a new beginning might give him a new impetus. At the boarding school he makes friends with a group of youngsters - including the beautiful and intelligent yet unhappy Alaska Young - who open a whole new world for him.
Looking for Alaska is a novel about adolescents in their final years at school who are discovering friendship, love and desire, and learning how trust, responsibility, grief and loss are an integral part of human experience.

From Sophie:
I didn't like the beginning of the book because the 'one hundred thirty-six days before'-capture was boring.

Then it got a little better, but I don't really know, if I should like the book or not.
This 'test' when some guys duct-taped Miles was kind of shocking because he could have died. I liked this passage because it showed that this book can thrill me somehow.

  1. From Alina:
For me the beginning of the book was boring, too.It seems to be an ordinary story of becoming an adult and teenager problems.
Also the way of telling the story (first-person narrator) is not my favourite way of telling, especially Miles Halter is the narrator and it is a bit strange to read how the boys talk about girls.
But I agree with Sophie that the prank the other boys played on Miles makes the story for the first time interesting. I am curious whats coming next, if this prank was the true beginning of an intersting story.
